Perhaps you are looking to become a better version of yourself in 2023. Maybe you want to create a better community, or just get more involved in it. Maybe you’ve tutored or mentored in the past and found it an enriching experience. Whatever the reason, 2023 is your year to mentor or tutor a young person! Two-thirds of children and teens in DC need a little extra support, be it help with studies or being there for them – just an hour or two a week makes an enormous difference! The Mentor Recruitment Fair is an excellent opportunity to get to know the professionals and programs who are making every year brighter for kids across the District. At this event, the professionals will give short presentations in succession about their programs. After the initial presentations, you can enter a session (or sessions) with an individual program that you like for a deeper dive. This is where you will be able to ask questions with the representative from that program and share information about yourself. Questions you, the volunteer, can ask include: What populations does your program serve? How many hours per week of time commitment are expected from volunteers? Where and when does mentoring/tutoring occur? Are there flexible options to fit my schedule? …and anything else! Take a moment to check out the expo booths, with descriptions of the organizations, links to their websites, and more. Afterward, the organizations will follow up with you and get you started on your mentoring journey! See you on January 19th! Follow us on social media: #MentorDCin23Be a better “we” in ‘23!The Mentor Recruitment Fair is hosted by MENTOR Maryland | DC and the DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative. Contact Ezra Mannix at ezra@dctutormentor.org or 781-827-9218 for more information.
