Friends in the community

In addition to the tutoring and mentoring organizations we work with, we also have “friends in the community” organizations that, like us, seek to improve outcomes for young people, and/or the DC or national community. Volunteer Engagement Network (VEN), Partners in CivicFest, DC OST Coalition (Out-of-School-Time) (a project of DC Action), Listen First Coalition (national coalition of organizations working on depolarization, etc.)

District Bridges

District Bridges enriches neighborhood vitality by bridging community engagement and economic development opportunities so individuals, businesses, and organizations can thrive together. District Bridges manages “open streets” events in DC, a global initiative that temporarily closes city roadways to vehicles to provide safe spaces for walking, biking, skating, and other social activities. DCTMI can be found signing up volunteers at Open Streets events every year!

Fresh Farm

Fresh Farm manages nearly 30 farmers markets across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, including the year-round market DuPont Circle, the largest in DC, where DCTMI regularly has a presence.

Markets & More

Markets & More, LLC is a marketing and consulting company that runs two farmers’ markets in DC where DCTMI is a regular presence, Bloomingdale and 14th & U.

Central Farm Markets

Central Farm Markets manages the Bethesda Central Farm Market, The market is one of the largest farmers markets in the region, hosting over 100 vendors and artisan food producers year-round – and DCTMI a couple times per year.

Farmers Market SW

Farmers Market SW takes place from April to November and DCTMI is a regular presence there signing up volunteers.

Eastern Market

Each Tuesday and weekends at the Farmer's Line, Eastern Market hosts an open-air food market of fresh produce. While DCTMI doesn’t have a stand there, you can often find our canvassers there or at nearby Trader Joe’s!

NoMa BID

The NoMa Business Improvement District aims to improve the magnetism and vibrancy of the neighborhood through the following priorities: connectivity, economic development, inclusivity, brand & reputation, play, safety. The BID hosts movie nights, where DCTMI can be found canvassing and signing up new volunteers!

Adams Morgan BID

The Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (AMPBID) aims to enhance the quality of life for residents, visitors, employees, businesses and property owners in Adams Morgan. They also host movie nights in the warmer months, and DCTMI can be found canvassing and signing up new volunteers.

Volunteer Engagement Network (VEN)

The Volunteer Engagement Network (VEN) brings together staff from a wide variety of human service and other nonprofit organizations who recruit and manage volunteers. Monthly or bimonthly meetings include opportunities for training, networking, and exploring collaborations to make a more effective nonprofit sector. Recent meetings have included discussions of the impact of the Biden-Harris Administration on the nonprofit sector, how to talk to volunteers about social and racial justice, and the impact of COVID on volunteering.

American Future

American Future, a weekly column, reports on the desired future of everyday Americans as the founder, Debilyn Molineaux, interviews a few people each week from across the nation.

Debilyn serves as the catalyst for the American Future project to help everyday Americans discover and believe in a future that will be "worth it" to work together for the sake of our nation.
